America's Pizza Captial
GET READY for a slimmed-down slice. Long Island-based SKINNYPIZZA® is preparing to take on America’s pizza capital with its first restaurant in the five boroughs. The two-year old chain, which will set up shop in the World Financial Center this September, focuses on providing pies with a healthy twist. Its super-thin crust is preservative-free and its cheeses are all-natural. It uses organic tomato sauce, and its meat toppings are antibiotic- and hormone-free. “I want to make this the healthier version of regular New York style pizza,” said SKINNYPIZZA® president and founder Joseph Vetrano. “Manhattan is ready for this.” Vetrano opened up the first SKINNYPIZZA® in Roslyn Heights in 2010 and a second shop followed in the Roosevelt Field Mall. The newest location will be part of the World Financial Center’s dining terrace, and Vetrano said he plans to hire about 25 people to staff the 700 square-foot shop.
